Google released the first version of the developer preview of Android 14 a few days ago. While the company gives some details about the Android 14 features via this preview, it is now only available for Pixel developers. According to the expectations, the new version of the operating system will include several new features like better performance, accessibility, and more. Here are the details about the Android 14 features, release date, and compatible devices list…
What to expect from Android 14 features?
The new version of the operating system is expected to come with a lot of new features. However, everything looks and feels as if it’s an updated system of its predecessor for now. The most expected Android 14 feature is the battery life and performance. According to the rumors, the new version will change the OS’ efficiency, and it will have a better background process optimization to reduce battery consumption and improve performance.
Additionally, Android 14 could feature better accessibility functions. On the preview, we can see the feature that allows fonts to scale non-linearly. Thanks to the new feature, users can increase the magnification of the displayed text from 130% to 200%. Google says, “Android supports font scaling up to 200%, providing low-vision users with additional accessibility options that align with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)”.
Android 14 is also expected to offer security and privacy improvements, including a new malware-fighting function that blocks app installations or only allows them if they can meet criteria. With Android 14, Android phones cannot be installed an application that is Android 5.1 or older. Also, the new version of the operating system will support Passkeys, a biometric-powered replacement for passwords feature.
Android 14 is expected to release to the public sometime in August 2023, according to the timeline. In terms of the name, there are no official announcements yet. However, Android 14 could be called an Upside-Down Cake, with the letter “U” as a code name.
